<image:title>Coach Barbara Patchen - BARBARA PATCHEN</image:title>
<image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: An over-achieving boss lady with a big heart. They’d also say I’m philosophical, more fun after one, endearingly jealous, tired by 8pm, queso-obsessed, and incapable of lying. My coaching style is: Deep, decisive, and direct. But you won’t necessarily see it coming! One of my past clients once said, “Somehow you crawled into my soul and now you just live there… calling me out on my sh*t!” One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: There are three major inhibitors to living a bold life: fear, inaction, and the unwillingness to ask for help. One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: Two of the bigger leaps I’ve taken in my life recently are moving to Arkansas for love and leaving Corporate America for Stoked. My story: I grew up in a small town in Northeast Ohio. My family had its fair share of challenges from job loss to addiction, but we had a lot of love. My Dad has always been my biggest advocate. He taught me the power of generosity, how to love unconditionally, and what it takes to be a loyal friend and family member. I was intensely shy as a child. Since 3rd grade (and to this day), I’ve been creeping out of that shell in search of meaning. I learned at a young age to stop hating myself for what I’m not good at (which is a lot), and instead design a life that amplifies my strengths. I went to Ohio University to study business and global leadership, which was the beginning of my passion for international travel and global studies. I went from leaving Ohio once or twice in my life at age 18, to doing anything I could to get a scholarship or save money to travel. I studied in Thailand and Spain, while also doing cultural deep dives alongside students and leaders from Brazil, Japan, Poland, and even a Hare Krishna community in West Virginia. After that, I went to graduate school for Industrial/Organizational Psychology where I brought my curiosity to Cuba. I’ve spent the last 10+ years working in OD and since 2012, I’ve been practicing human-centered design. I live to create something from nothing. I love designing solutions and creating experiences that expand possibilities, widen perspectives, and improve lives. I currently live in Arkansas where my partner and I are building a new home on our 50 acre farm while dreaming up business plans for a U-Pick blueberry & strawberry farm. Because why not! <image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: Kind, honest, curious and always up for a new adventure. They’d also say I am calm under pressure, try to be truly non-judgmental, and thrive around making others feel special. On the personal front, I’m a city girl through and through, love 90s Hindi movies, adore animals and keep the oddest hours of anyone you know. My coaching style is: Empathetic, straightforward, and focused on the needs of my coachee. I am here in service of them! One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: There is power and beauty in diverse experiences and we should make the most of the opportunity to truly listen to and see others. I also believe in the power of “yet” - if you can’t do something, it may just mean you can’t do it “yet”. One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: Living in different countries and moving through multiple roles in different organizations that had little to no connection to each other. Having the opportunity to constantly challenge myself has helped me grow, learn, stay humble and be inspired. My story: I grew up in Mumbai, India in a very close-knit environment of family and friends. Used to city life only, it was a big culture shift when I moved to the US in my teens and joined the University of Arizona in Tucson - a much smaller place than I had ever lived in or even visited. But I ended up loving it and studied Business, majoring in Marketing. Post-college, I’ve engaged in multiple roles in a couple of large organizations including marketing, management, training and people and organization development. I’ve also lived in multiple cities from San Antonio to Phoenix to Paris and New York. I get bored easily if not challenged and so enjoy being able to try new things, meet new people and make impact on others even if it’s in some small way. <image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: Optimistic, creative, driven, empathetic, thoughtful, playful, adventurous, a leader, inventive. My coaching style is: Experimental, direct, championing, creative, playful, focused. One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: Everyone is capable of much more than they realize. Creativity and experimentation can unlock that potential. One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: Learned how to bring my whole self to my work, so that I’m more integrated, and authentic—not segmented. My story: I’m not a cat, but I’ve had nine lives. I’ve had a rich career journey, spanning design, business, learning and development, and the arts. I leverage what I’ve learned through those experiences to help people unlock their potential and get better results—by strengthening their creativity, problem-solving, and leadership skills. I do this through one-on-one executive coaching, team training, and learning programs that span topics like design thinking, ideation, and leadership. These pieces are in service of my mission: inspire innovative learning cultures that help people and organizations thrive. Prior to this work, I was the Global Managing Director of Cooper Professional Education, a line of business at Designit. I led a team that developed and delivered best-in-class design thinking and creative leadership training to companies worldwide, including Cisco, Clorox, Starbucks, Novo Nordisk, and NASA. I spearheaded the global expansion of our education services to 10 countries. I’ve also personally designed learning experiences and delivered them to teams and leaders at Clorox, ServiceNow, HealthPlan Services, Chick-fil-A, and many more. Whether I’m coaching, facilitating, or designing learning experiences, my goal is to ask tough questions, inspire curiosity, and change what’s possible in the minds and lives of others. In my free time, you can find me gardening, making art with my kids, writing songs and playing my ukulele, making short art films, kayaking the Massachusetts waterways, and going for long hikes in the woods. <image:title>coach Emily Callaghan - EMILY CALLAGHAN</image:title>
<image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: (mashup of feedback) One with gumption. Hilarious, supportive, brave, smart. She has a huge and generous heart, is deeply empathetic and committed to learning and self development, smart with a strategic mind and mastery of visualization, creative creative creative, lifelong learner, beloved partner, friend. Typically has some kind of job that she’s made up. My coaching style is: Actively curious and compassionately challenging. One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: We should all feel uncomfortable. Always. Not in every dimension and aspect of life, but discomfort is growth and connection and evidence of expansion and willingness to reveal vulnerability. We get to unlearn and learn all life long. So - what are you waiting for? One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: Quit a “big” job to live a more connected, loving life. Sold my house and moved across the country to follow my heart, blend a family and learn a whole new depth of humility. My story: I grew up in St. Louis, MO and bounced around houses a lot as a kid. Since then I’ve lived in the Midwest, Southwest, both coasts and Portugal. Then, I fell in love with an Icelandic yogurt maker in California. Our little family lives in Sonoma County, north of the Bay area. We have an almost 7th grader, pup Beatrice and kitten Momo. We recently got an Airstream camper and I’ve been busy pretending I know anything about camping. I studied journalism in undergrad, product design in graduate school and was a Marie Curie fellow studying creativity and innovation in Europe. I’ve been in design for about 20 years, I’ve traveled the world building a community of design thinkers for a $40B company, built a multi-disciplinary design organization from scratch at a $30B company and was a Designer in Residence at Stanford’s d.school. My design practice now is focused on a mix of higher education, industry clients and individual coaching. I’m always choosing new challenges that feel unfamiliar. <image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: A highly motivated world changer. I like to use my gifts to create paths for others and speak up for those, who may think they have no voice! My coaching style is: Caring, reflective and intrusive...I like to make my coachee’s challenge norms and feel SEEN! One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: One's path to success does not have to be linear. My own personal and professional journey has been a whirlwind with lots of twists and turns. Every phase, path and relationship played a part in leading me into a career I love and becoming authentically me....I believe we should find ways to spend more time doing what fulfills us. It doesn’t have to make sense to someone else, as long as it matters to you! #whatbox? One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: One wild pivot…. From: Stressful corporate job with great salary, travel and perks To: Award winning high school business teacher, IN LOVE with her career. More time to harness the creativity and capacity of others. #grateful My story: I started on a path to elementary education but switched to pursue a career in higher education administration. A tech company enticed me with an opportunity to train adults and nearly double my salary. SO MANY wonderful opportunities came from that. At the end of the day, I’m just a girl from the country, one who attended school in a small town with less than 10k pp. One who wasn’t sure she’d be able to finish the first semester of college, but managed to earn 2 degrees. I’m a wife and mother who draws strength from my faith and family. Digging Deeper: Here are a few photos that tell you more about me. What do you notice?</image:caption>

<image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: Knows how to bring in the sunshine, incapable of having just one donut, a fierce defender of her passions (including showtunes), appreciates a good meme, lives in a marshmallow bathrobe, belongs in water (like a certain shark who bears her name), and a professional enthusiast. My coaching style is: Flexible. I’m the river guide: I know the general path of our journey together, can call out the twists and turns that might feel especially bumpy, but it’s your ride. How can a session feel like pinching your nose and doing a cannonball into the deep end? One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: That you’ll leave with just what you needed. We show up to conversations about rapid prototyping, but our brain is about how we want to influence a colleague, and then we find ourselves exploring how we can use insights to build evidence for our case. My goal in every coaching session is to have you walk with feeling like you showed up, regardless of how you arrived. One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: I have always prided myself on being fiercely independent and then I fell in love. With my partner, with our shared life, and with our son. The combination of joy and fear I feel when relying on others is a continuous leap for me, takes work, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My story: I am curious, and like my passions, ever-evolving. A competitive swimmer for most of my life, I started my career in emergency medicine as an EMT for Ocean Rescue. In a series of endless summers, I eventually found a problem I was more interested in exploring: how individuals, families and communities connected to services they need. I found my way back to traditional academia to pursue a career in ethnographic research and behavioral economics, and set out on a humbling and rewarding adventure that never ends. I have had the privilege to research and design with disaster survivors, patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, banks, credit unions, regulators, non-profits, utility companies, academics, restaurateurs, formerly incarcerated folks, academics, and technology experts. I have led cross-matrixed stakeholders from peers in start-ups working toward their series A to C-suite in the Fortune 100 to deliver transformational experiences. Trained in creative break-through and grounded in experiences building cross-functional teams, I founded Business Meets Casual in 2018, a platform focused on skills-building in the workplace, and amplifying the human-centered solutions that create healthier and more sustainable work environments. I live in DC, in a community I adore, with my third attempt at a kitchen garden, my husband Mike, and a new housemate: our newborn son, John. <image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: A resourceful maker and creative builder; a joy bringer; a collaboration junkie and “bringer-togetherer” of diverse perspectives; a kind nudger and encourager; a dad-joke champ. My coaching style is: Leaning into creativity, being generative and iterative. I like to co-create and illuminate many exciting directions, then hone in on what’s worth exploring. We’ll always rely on a little adrenaline to traverse brave experiments. One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: Character, grit, and vision are always core to the recipe for impact. One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: My family and I will be packing up our home and living out of a tiny off-road teardrop trailer for 3 months to investigate and experiment with locations we’re interested in putting down roots. This may bring validation to where we thought we wanted to set up shop, and it might surprise us with something new. Either way, the challenge will… put us in a tight spot… but we’re ready for the eye-opening adventure. My story: In Michigan I grew up drawn to design and was naturally led to study architecture and facility management at Ferris State University. I moved to San Francisco to join Hyatt, thinking an engineering path at a hotel company known for architectural progression was the right fit. I was surprised to stumble into a program called d.Leadership at the Stanford d.school where exposure to design thinking ignited something new in me. It expanded my ability to impact people beyond the built environment. I spent the next 8 years at Hyatt building an innovation practice, leading a series of programs developed to create innovations and innovators. I returned to the d.school to teach executive education programs like Design Thinking Bootcamp -- there my intrigue and curiosity around reimagining “how” we work became the ever-present design challenge I felt most drawn to. I joined Stoked in 2021 to sink my teeth into solving that challenge as a full-time gig, and for a larger variety of industries and organizations. I want to continue growing -- personally, professionally, spiritually; as a husband, as a dad, as a friend and colleague -- and I’m left filled up when I get to spend time collaborating with folks who share a similar pursuit of growth. <image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: FUN! My essence is fun, energy, connection, loyalty and conviction. One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: Being fulfilled in any aspect of life requires fun and play! One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: I am consistently embracing adventure and throwing caution to the wind. Wanna try something new? I’m in. I love taking on new challenges and adventures, both at work and outside of it. You can catch me in a variety of activities - showing up bravely & vulnerably in an improv class, sharing my conviction through pitching a business idea to investors in an accelerator program, submitting my application for the next season of The Great American Baking Show, building a piece of furniture or creating a piece of art. I definitely embrace my generalist over specialist path and go for Range. My story: Raised in the northern woods of Wisconsin, I am a country girl with no shoes on at heart and have been forest bathing from birth. I spent a lot of quality time with my parents and younger brother outside, creating and learning the ropes of a family business in forestry. Fast forward a few years to where I fell in love with design and worked for all kinds of different organizations that piqued my interest - from creating engaging store experiences at Urban Outfitters and Trek to designing products and services at Kohler and Cigna. My passion is currently working with organizations who have a desire to make a positive social impact and design for equity and justice. Today I live in Cincinnati with my husband Kellen and good boy Pluto. We love spending time outdoors, just not canoeing (asking me about that later). I am currently enjoying a project in which I am sketching portraits of family members and friends to create a wallpaper for our house. My coaching style is:</image:caption>

<image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: Reserved but opinionated, heady but not with a shred of pretension — down to earth and approachable all day long, especially once you really get to know me. My coaching style is: Laid back and informal, digging in quickly, I like to disarm situations with buckets of honesty and authenticity. One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: We’re all the same deep down and none of us really know what we’re doing to get through it all. The deeper we get the more we realize we’re all the same.. One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: Last fall I left what I thought was my dream job and stepped back into freelance life, then straight into a down-to-the-studs house remodel. Leaving a life of stress, but one of stability that made my ego happy, for a world of uncertainty has been a difficult one full of learning and freedom. My story: I grew up a preacher’s kid in Knoxville, a shy introspective child who was unbearably curious. I was always looking for questions answered or other ways to sponge up more in my life. As I got older that’s one of the few things that hasn’t changed. Even into college I can now see how I was living in a bubble of security, and I’ve spent my early adulthood trying to discover the curious life beyond it. I’ve spent most of my work in the worlds of social innovation design, usually either designing and consulting on product or service reimagining. One day I realized there was this thing called human-centered design and slowly did everything I could to get closer to the people and projects with it at the center. I’ve been lucky to work with some of the places I dreamt of, spent way too much time on airplanes, and continue to explore those constant curiosities through new places and experiences. Now I’m trying to re-learn what it means to slow down, be purposeful, and use a global pandemic to bring a new pace of life to it all.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My closest friend would describe me as: Your #1 hype girl. High energy, principled, creative, determined, grounded, at times impatient, and a stand-out karaoke singer. My coaching style is: Heavily influenced by the socratic method. Nothing compares to that jolt of energy from an “aha” moment you got to on your own (with a gentle nudge here and there). Think of me as the Homer to your Dante, but traversing much more pleasant terrain! One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: In the immortal words of Mr Rogers, "I don't think anyone can grow unless he's loved exactly as he is now, appreciated for what he is rather than what he will be." One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: I’m a planner by nature and a lover of predictability, which has been blown up by the past 3 months of my life. In the span of 1.5 months, I found out I was pregnant, started a new job and entered into a house remodel. Here’s to a new era of flexibility and releasing control! My story: I’m a Texas gal through and through. I grew up in Dallas with a pair of loving and supportive parents who championed my various interests, from art and soccer to student government and country western dance. I was a born achiever, setting a high bar (unrealistically so, at times) for myself and those around me. As I’ve grown and learned, I’ve embraced the power of giving grace to myself and to others, celebrating that none of us are finished products. After studying Advertising at The University of Texas at Austin, I unintentionally landed in a career in Human Resources. I’ve spent my career studying people as I’ve moved from recruiting to learning and organizational development to HR business partnering. Since 2018, I’ve been a firm believer in the human-centered design process as the most fruitful way to approach people opportunities. You’ll now find me “yes and-ing” my way through many a rowdy brainstorm to reimagine out-dated HR practices around performance management, career development, company values and more! I’ve put down roots in Austin with my husband, senior black lab and lil’ baby (coming August 2021!). In my leisure time, I love testing new pasta recipes, cheering on my favorite football teams (Texas Longhorns by blood, Kansas City Chiefs by marriage), devouring true crime and pop culture podcasts and taking advantage of all the margaritas and queso Austin has to offer. Your wisdom always erupts from surprising places and hits me like a tidal wave. You’re prone to cycles of burnout and rebirth, like a phoenix… oh and you’re the most enjoyable person on Earth to spend an entire day on a porch with.” ~Kirsten’s best friend Becca One belief that I have that influences my approach to coaching is: Sharing my subjective truth compassionately and with humility, no matter how inspiring or painful, is the bare minimum of what I must offer the people I value in my life. One way I’ve challenged a norm or taken a leap in my life is: FROM: Facilitating wilderness therapeutic intervention with young adults TO: Serving as a human centered designer in large corporations with professionals across all stages of career development My story: It’s a Russian doll of other stories. I grew up in several other countries in local schools. I learned that history, ceremony and collective culture were things I longed for as a US citizen. I took a love of cultural immersion into college, where I studied anthropology and geography and joined an outdoor club at the University of Florida. My Florida friends and I would fondly fantasize about far away lands, with mountains and glaciers and seasons. I learned that a good community is one that makes every day life an adventure. After working overseas for a few years doing anything from teaching environmental education on a barge in Thailand to managing farm stays in Scotland, I moved to Utah and Oregon to work in wilderness therapy. I learned that our deepest, most painful needs as humans are shared. I then completed a MBA and a MA in Industrial Organizational Psychology. I met this vivacious woman Barbara Patchen from the weird company named Stoked. Ever since this collision, I’ve been deeply honored to co-design education and innovation experiences for our clients. Being an Un-Professional to me means being comfortable sharing my story confidently, in my own language, on my company’s website. I feel the space between my personal and professional selves dissolve a little more each day at Stoked, which I am so grateful for. My coaching style is:</image:caption>
